Asian supremacy remains indisputable

With six archers qualified for the 1/4 final round in the Women’s Individual competition, the Asian continent has secured even more his supremacy over archery’s world. The most impressive of them remains the Koreans who, as expected, have managed to place their three female participants into the 1/4 finals.

Defending Olympic Gold medallist Yun Mi Jin defeated by 168-162 US Jennifer Nichols in the first match this morning, in what is the Women’s Individual Gold Day. "I am very happy because I was very focussed and I shot a lot of 10s. I believe that I will improve my performance in the next round", the Korean said.

Yun was later joined to the 1/4 round by her team mate Lee Sung Jin, who beat Margarita Galinovskaya from the Russian Federation (165-163). In the final 1/8 match Park Sung Hyun comfortably progressed to the next stage of the race for Gold shooting an amazing score of 171 against British Naomi Folkard (159).

China and Chinese Taipei, for their part, respectively placed one and two archers in the 1/4 final round. In their next matches, both Chinese Taipei archers will compete against Koreans: Yuan Shu Chi (TPE) – Yun Min Jin (KOR) and Wu Hui Ju (TPE) – Lee Sung Jin (KOR). The winners of these matches will meet in the 1/2 final.

After her 156-142 victory against the sole African archer remaining at this stage of the competition, Kirstin Jean Lewis from South Africa, the Chinese He Ying will be facing 32-year old British Alison Williamson, who defeated another Chinese, Zhang Juanjuan (165-161). "My next opponent is also from China so I will be trying to play the same way in the next round and hopefully I can progress further". Both archers have had a consistent Olympic experience with Williamson attending her fourth Games, while He is competing in her third successive Olympics.
