Korea’s record spree continues with men

Korea’s Im Dong Hyun continued archery’s bold start to the Athens 2004 Olympic Games by setting a new world record in the men’s Ranking Round.

After both the women’s individual and team world records fell to Korean archers in the morning, teenager Im set the competition alight with a record of 687 for his 72 arrows.

This means Im enters the men’s Olympic Round as the top-ranked archer. The men’s Olympic Round starts at Panathinaiko Stadium on Monday.

Other archers to show excellent form included Sweden’s Magnus Petersson, who ranked second with 673, and Italy’s European champion Marco Galiazzo in third place with 672. Korea’s Park Kyung Mo also scored 672 to be fourth, with the third Korean Jang Yong Ho in fifth.

Defending Olympic champion Simon Fairweather of Australia is ranked 20th, scoring 658. Reigning world champion Michele Frangilli of Italy is ranked 24th with 654.

In the team event, Korea secured the number one ranking with a score of 2030. Chinese Taipei and Italy placed second and third respectively. All three teams will receive a first round bye in the team event because of their high placing.
