Global Parity

The 2003 World Outdoor Target Archery Championships were held in New York. It set new records of attendance, with more than 550 archers from 70 nations competing. For the first time ever, the four individual titles (men’s and women’s compound, and men’s and women’s recurve) went to archers from four different continents – an excellent sign of the depth and spread of talent across the globe. However, such a spread of success has not occurred at the Olympics. Since the team events were introduced in 1988, providing the archery program with four events (men’s individual and team, and women’s individual and team), the four gold medals have never been won by four different nations. Can it happen for the first time in Greece?
